What to do

  • Noteworthy
  • Worth the detour
  • Must see

Horse riding in CariboosAshcroft lies a few kilometres east of Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway). Many gold prospectors heading north set out from here in the 1860s.

Aboard your Canada RV hire, you can take the Trans-Canada East towards Kamloops, passing through Cache Creek on the way in order to skirt Kamloops Lake and see the ginseng fields.

Ashcroft - Cariboo Mountains

Ashcroft enjoys a warm dry climate, with one of the hottest summers in Canada and very little precipitation throughout the year. The entire area is classified as semi-arid.

Ashcroft's economy is primarily based on mining, agriculture, ranching, transportation services and tourism.

Ashcroft Bakery & Coffee Shop ($)

This traditional old-school bakery serves specialty coffees, teas, bread, cookies, sandwiches, salads, small pizzas and soups, as well as a daily menu for lunch. A wide selection of fresh-baked breads and pastries including cinnamon buns (which are gigantic, by the way!), pies and cakes. Warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Horsting's Farm Market ($)

Horsting's houses a bakery, a cafe and a farmer's market with farm-fresh produce, flowers and plants, all in a charming setting. Sit on the patio and enjoy a custom sandwich, entirely designed by you with your choice of bread, protein, condiments, cheese and vegetables. Don't feel like a sandwich? Have soup, a muffin, a slice of homemade pie, a cookie or just an ice cream cone. There is also a small boutique selling gifts and garden items. Easily accessible with a large parking lot. A real nugget on the Gold Rush trail!

suitable for an overnight stop

This was a pleasant town to wander around during our overnight stop to Wells Gray but not a destination in itself.
